The 2018 Chancellor’s Circle dinner took place on Thursday, January 18 to celebrate the generous support of Capilano University’s Chancellor Circle members: individuals and organizations that have pledged over $25,000 or more in support of CapU. This year’s event hosted our donors in the new CapU Student Residences where guests had a chance to mingle and meet students and Residence Advisors.
2018 marks CapU’s 50th anniversary and we want to celebrate the experience with you! We’ve opened up our archives and are sharing stories, photographs, anecdotes and artifacts highlighting CapU memorable moments. Many of these stories are about you – students, alumni, faculty and staff, donors, business community and leaders – who have shaped CapU over the past five decades.
Establishing Capilano College on the North Shore was a community effort that corralled politicians, men, women and girls.
“Voting against the college would be like voting against motherhood,” North Vancouver councillor Jack Chadwick said in February 1968. On March 7, 1968, the school boards and residents of North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Howe Sound and Sechelt were to vote in a plebiscite to start a college on the North Shore.
To commemorate our 50th anniversary, the Great Ideas initiative was launched to support project ideas from the campus community that: enhance the student experience at CapU, showcase CapU in the broader community, and improve the physical environment of the campus. The approved projects will be announced later this spring, so stay connected to the 50th website to learn more.
Our donors have been a big part of our last 50 years. The CapU Student Bursary is a great way to continue that tradition. Please consider leaving a legacy for our next 50 years by donating today.
