Blues volleyball weekend recap

The CapU Blues women's volleyball team (11-9) played host to the UFV Cascades (9-11) this past weekend at the Sportsplex. The Blues came away with back-to-back victories (3-1 and 3-1) behind notable performances by Kira Sutcliffe who totalled 26 kills, four blocks and five aces over the two games and Alexis Sebok (12 kills, seven aces and one block). Head coach Cal Wohlford was pleased with his team's performance this weekend.

The CapU Blues women's volleyball team (11-9) played host to the UFV Cascades (9-11) this past weekend at the Sportsplex. The Blues came away with back-to-back victories (3-1 and 3-1) behind notable performances by Kira Sutcliffe who totalled 26 kills, four blocks and five aces over the two games and Alexis Sebok (12 kills, seven aces and one block). Head coach Cal Wohlford was pleased with his team's performance this weekend.

"The team played extremely well, we came out firing both nights and played with a lot of control and confidence. We definitely set a new standard of how we want to continue to play," Wohlford said. "It was a solid team effort and we want to continue with this success and effort for the rest of the season."

On the men's side, the Blues (4-16) lost to the UFV Cascades (12-8) 1-3 on Friday night and 0-3 on Saturday night. Second-year athletes, Brendan Cairns recorded 31 kills and John De la Cruz totalled 21 kills over the weekend. Although the Blues lost both, head coach Emmanuel Denguessi noted, "We had one of our best serving games on Friday with 5 aces in the first set."

With only four matches left before the PACWEST provincial championships, the Blues head to Abbotsford this coming weekend to take on the CBC Bearcats on Friday, February 12th (6/8 p.m.) and Saturday, February 13th (5/7 p.m.).
