Five Blues named Academic All-Canadians
Five Capilano University Blues student-athletes have received the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Associations most prestigious honour.
Recipients of the CCAA Academic All-Canadian award epitomize a commitment to academic success and athletic achievement. To qualify for the award, a student-athlete must be named to a conference all-star team and achieve Honours Standing at their institution.
"To achieve excellence in both sport and academics requires tremendous skill, dedication and perseverance," said Milt Williams, CapU Manager of Athletics & Recreation. "We are proud of the academic accomplishments our athletes and the support provided by the University in order for them to succeed."
The five Academic All-Canadians from Capilano are the second-most of the 10 institutions in the PACWEST, and they account for nearly a third of the PACWEST's winners. To date, 55 Capilano student-athletes have been named Academic All-Canadians since the award's creation in 1999.
Ashley dela Cruz Yip, Women's Basketball
In her fifth and final season at Capilano, dela Cruz Yip was named a PACWEST First Team All-Star and CCAA Tournament All-Star, in addition to leading the Blues to a PACWEST gold medal. An Arts & Sciences student, this is the second year in a row that she received this honour.
Keith Jackson, Men's Soccer
After leading the league in scoring, Jackson was named the 2017 PACWEST Player of the Year and a CCAA All-Canadian for the second season in a row. Jackson is completing his Bachelor of Communications Studies at CapU, and he won this award last season as well.
Isabela Lima, Women's Volleyball
A student in Capilano's Early Childhood Care & Education program, Lima was named a PACWEST Second Team All-Star and was also a member of the conference All-Rookie Team. She returned to Capilano this season after battling back from paralysis, and through her studies she wants to help promote health and nutrition in children.
Tyneille Neufeld, Women's Volleyball
Despite missing three weeks of the season to injury, Neufeld remained one of the top all-around players in the conference and was voted a PACWEST First Team All-Star. She achieved this honour last season as well after being named a conference Second Team All-Star. A third-year student-athlete, Neufeld is completing her Bachelor of Business Administration at CapU.
Claire Ye, Women's Soccer
Ye excelled in her first year as a student-athlete, as she was named PACWEST Rookie of the Year and a conference All-Star. She also helped the Blues to a silver medal at the PACWEST Championships the team's best result in 10 years. Ye studies in the Early Childhood Care & Education Program.
