How Canada Works

Day 1: How Canadian Society Works
Working in Canada means working interculturally. Whether you are communicating with customers, colleagues, supervisors, subordinates or suppliers, there will inevitably be an intercultural dimension. This course will address the impediments that can occur in cross-cultural communication, and will enable you to function more effectively in Canada’s multicultural workplaces.

Day 2: How Canadian Business Works
Focus on how Canadian businesses develop strategies, and implement and evaluate them. You will look at how Canadian businesses manage and lead change as well as analyze the way businesses look at stakeholders and the impact on society and communities  Learn business structures in Canada as well as some traditional and some not so traditional sources of funding for businesses. Then, examine writing for the workplace. You will learn direct and indirect approaches to written communication as well as informative and persuasive strategies. This hands-on workshop covers writing emails, memos and reports, and includes a review of English grammar and punctuation.

Day 3: How Canadian Economy Works
This unit will provide the socio-economic context for businesses in Canada. You will look at the economic development of different regions of Canada in order to understand large changes in the use of economic resources and output. Then, the focus will be on much more recent trends in business in the Province of British Columbia. We will analyze emergent businesses as well as job creation and possible business niches in the new economic sectors.

Day 4: How Communication in Organizations Work
You will learn concepts and applications of organizational behaviour that can be used to manage and enhance interpersonal relations with business managers, colleagues and clients.
