Introduction to Textile Arts
Explore contemporary textile art in this studio course. Discover various transfer techniques used to reproduce imagery on our textiles, including simple silk-screening. Learn how to use fabric paints, basic dyeing techniques, block printing, felting, and dye painting. Learn about the exciting aspects of surface embellishment, including varieties of hand and machine embroidery. There will be some exploration of free motion embroidery (students will need access to a machine). The course is based around sample projects with emphasis on experimentation and the creative process. This course is held in CapU’s Textile Arts studio.

Feltmaking: An Ancient Medium for Contemporary Creators NEW
Transform raw wool fibres into felt through a wet feltmaking process. Experience a variety of fibres and materials and incorporate them into wool to create complex textural surfaces. The diversity of this ancient medium will be explored through a variety of in-class exercises and experiments. A balance of guided learning and independent investigation will allow you to discover feltmaking techniques which you can later employ in your creative work. This course is held in CapU’s Textile Arts studio.
