Early Childhood Care & Education Certificate


  • The Early Childhood Care and Education department offers the Basic Certificate as an 'outcome' of courses taken while enrolled in the ECCE Diploma Program.  Students wishing to obtain the ECCE Basic Certificate can do so by applying to the ECCE Diploma program, and exiting the program when they have fulfilled the course requirements for the ECCE Basic Certificate according to the British Columbia Early Childhood Educator Registry. 

    The Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE) certificate is embedded in the ECCE diploma and consists of all EDUC 100, 200 level courses and EDUC 371. Classes are offered face to face; mixed mode, on-line and summer intensives. This program consists of in-depth courses presented in a manner that supports reflective practice and inquiry. Within the Certificate program course offerings are two applied theory practicum that offer students an opportunity to work with children and educators in licensed early years programs.

    Students can be enrolled as either a full-time or part-time student. Classes are offered face to face; mixed mode, on-line and summer intensives.

    The ECCE Certificate courses meet the requirements of the Early Childhood Educator Registry, Ministry for Children and Family Development for the infant/Toddler License to Practice.     Students in the ECCE diploma or degree are eligible to apply for their ECE Assistant license to practice with the Early Childhood Educator Registry, Ministry for Children and Family Development upon the successful completion of one of the following courses:

    EDUC 166 Child Development 1
    EDUC 179 Guiding Young Children
    EDUC 121 Introduction to Centre Administration
    EDUC 168 Child Development 2
