    • Financial Aid and Awards is committed to supporting students and assisting them in formulating a plan to finance their education.  Our advisors are available to provide information and assistance to international students on the following:

    • Entrance Scholarships and Awards

      A comprehensive listing of all scholarships, bursaries, and awards administered by Financial Aid and Awards is available in the Scholarships, Bursaries & Awards Guide.   Search for "International Students" under the Award Categories section of the guide.  

      Entrance Scholarships and Awards open to international students include:

      • Canadian Offshore School Entrance Awards
      • Capilano Achievement Scholarships (CAPA)
      • Capilano Program Awards (CAPP)
      • Capilano Excellence Scholarships (CAPX)
      • Capilano University Graduate Program Entrance Awards
      • International Students Entrance Awards
      • Maple Leaf Education Systems (MLES) Entrance Awards

      Applications may be required.  Application deadlines are March 31st of each year.

      Student Loans

      Canadian Student Loans

      Loans and grants offered by Canadian governments are available to Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents, and Landed Immigrants.  If you belong to a different student group, you are not able to access this type of funding

      U.S. Direct Loans

      Capilano University has deferment-only status with the U.S. Direct Loan program.  

      Students with previous U.S. federal student loans may be eligible to retain their interest-free status or defer loan payments while studying at Capilano University.  Obtain the deferment request form from your loan provider and submit it to Financial Aid and Awards for processing for each term of study that you are registered for.  Your form will be processed within 5 business days and forwarded to your loan provider.  

      Capilano University is not designated by the U.S. Department of Education as an eligible foreign school for the purposes of receiving Title IV funding.  Therefore, we are unable to process FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) applications for new loans under the William D. Ford Direct Loan Program.

      Private Student Loans

      Financial Aid and Awards supports the administration of private loan certification for U.S. students (SallieMae Loans)


      Please contact the student loan provider, if applicable, in your home country for information about loan options that may be available to you.

      Scholarships and Awards

      Capilano University administers a variety of scholarships and awards each term that may be open to international students, including CIE International Student Awards and CIE International Student Scholarships.  Applications may be required.

      Award applications are available at Current Students each term; applications are due before the end of the standard add/drop period each term.   

      Some emergency financial aid may be available for international students experiencing unexpected financial emergencies.  See Emergency Funding for further information. 

      External Awards

      External Awards are offered by organizations and associations separate from Capilano University; criteria may vary.  

      Visit External Awards for information and resources available to assist you in accessing external award funding, including an International Scholarship searchable database that details scholarship opportunities for non-Canadians.

      Workshops, Seminars, and Information Sessions

      Financial Aid and Awards presents a number of events each term that are avaiable for international students. 

      Topics include education financing, budgeting, money management, applying for awards, and more!

      U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

      Students wishing to receive Veterans Affairs benefits while studying at Capilano University should contact Financial Aid and Awards to confirm program eligibility.  The Department of Veterans Affairs must approve your program of study before you begin your program if you wish to receive benefits.  This process can take approximately 8 weeks.
