It is everyone’s responsibility to help keep the CapU community safe and supportive – What’s your pledge against sexualized violence?

What does "taking the pledge" mean?

  • It means you pledge to be a leader on campus
  • It means you pledge to be more than a bystander
  • It means you pledge to be a contributing CapU citizen

Capilano University is committed to creating and maintaining a learning and working environment characterized by mutual respect, safety, civility and free inquiry. The University does not tolerate or condone behaviour which contributes to a hostile, inequitable and/or an unsafe learning or working environment.

All Members of the University Community have the right to work, teach and study in an environment that is free from all forms of sexual violence and misconduct. Safety and security at the University are a priority and any form of sexual violence and misconduct will not be tolerated or condoned. The University expects all Members of the University Community to abide by all laws and University policies.

Maybe you feel as though sexual violence does not affect you, but statistics show that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime.

Taking the Pledge simply means doing what you can. It may not be the same role, but we all have a role to play, whether you are a survivor, bystander, leader or community member.
