Bio

Allison Habkirk (MPA, University of Victoria, 1997) has more than 30 years of experience in local government as a professional, elected official and educator. She is a registered planner who has worked as a staff planner, consultant and trainer for local governments, the Province of B.C. and the Local Government Management Association.

Habkirk has worked with more than 50 municipalities, 12 regional districts and 2 improvement districts across B.C. Clients include the Nisga'a Nation, the YuułuɁiłɁath Government, the Province of B.C., Interior Healthy Authority and Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. She has also worked with numerous not for profit organizations, including Local Government Management Association, CivicInfoBC, B.C. Municipal Safety Association, Local Government Leadership Academy, Union of B.C. Municipalities, Victoria Civic Heritage Trust, Prince George Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Nanaimo (BIA) and Victoria Crisis Help Line Society.

Habkirk served as Mayor and Councillor for the District of Central Saanich for three terms of office.

A lifelong learner, Habkirk recently completed courses in leadership training and governance at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and the University of Helsinki, Finland. She also recently returned from three missions in Amman, Jordan working with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and Global Affairs Canada on the Jordan Municipal Support Project.

I co-instruct PADM 305 Policy Skills for Local Government Professionals and PADM 208 Community Planning in Local Government organizations.

I am the author of several publications on local government topics and maintain a keen interest in leadership development, elected official and staff training, strategic planning, and small town planning.
