Messages for Post-Secondary from Dr. Bonnie Henry

In-person learning recommended

On January 21, 2022 Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry again strongly recommended in-person learning at post secondary universities, colleges and institutes in BC. Read the Letter from Dr. Bonnie Henry sent to post-secondary presidents to learn more about the reasons for this evidence-based approach. This follows earlier communication on December 21, 2021 outlining Dr. Bonnie Henry's rationale for in-person teaching and learning.

virtual town hall meeting was held on December 8, 2021 with representatives from the Office of the Provincial Health Officer (PHO) and the BC Centre for Disease Control to discuss public health guidance for BC’s post-secondary institutions.

Participants at the town hall included senior representatives from post-secondary institutions, Indigenous partners, post-secondary labour organizations, student associations, and sector association presidents.

Topics discussed included:

  • Why vaccinations are not mandatory for post-secondary students, faculty and staff;
  • The limited value of rapid testing in environments with high vaccination rates;
  • The low COVID-19 transmission rates at post-secondary institutions; and
  • PHO advice on travel over the holiday break.
