Dean - Faculty of Arts & Sciences and Sunshine Coast (acting)

Aurelea Mahood joined Capilano University's English Department in 2005. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Aurelea has extensive experience with program and curriculum development; in particular, she played a lead role in developing the Faculty of Arts and Science's Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies. She coordinated the Liberal Studies BA from its launch in 2011 until 2017 when she assumed the role of Faculty Lead on the university's ePortfolio initiative.

As the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences, she is responsible for overseeing programing in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics. In this new role, she is looking forward to drawing on her past experiences with program development and review and the incorporation of high impact learning practices, such as digital portfolios, into courses and programs.

Aurelea has also participated in a number of university-wide committees and initiatives, including the Faculty Professional Development Committee and the Senate Curriculum Committee.

Her areas of expertise and research interests include 20th century British literature, literary modernism, print culture/history of the book, and electronic literature/digital poetry. Teaching-related interests include digital pedagogy, digital humanities, ePortfolios, and team-based learning.

Aurelea holds an Honours BA in English and Communications from Simon Fraser University, an MA in English from the University of Toronto, and DPhil from the Faculty of English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford.

She lives in North Vancouver with her family and dog all of whom enjoy spending as much as possible on the network of trails that crisscross the North Shore.
