CapU Lonsdale

CapU Lonsdale is an extension of Capilano University's main campus, located in the historic Shipyards building on the waterfront in Lower Lonsdale.

This location offers increased capacity for programs, community outreach opportunities, and flexible day, evening and weekend programming.

CapU Lonsdale is on the second floor at 125 Victory Ship Way, North Vancouver.

For the Spring 2024 term, the building is open 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., Monday to Friday. All activities need to finish by 9:45 p.m. to allow time for staff to conduct closing procedures.

We are also open some weekends, but only when courses, events and external rentals are scheduled.

Please consult the CapU Lonsdale front desk staff for details, as the building is closed outside those hours, with no access for employees or students.

Courses change each term. Consult the CapU course catalogue for additional information.

Instructors will communicate plans for their office hours and it will depend on each instructor and course.

Meeting rooms have been made available for instructors to meet with their students should instructors choose to make these arrangements.

CapU Lonsdale houses seven classrooms, four small meeting rooms, and flexible space for such activities as arts & culture events, showcases, etc.

The classrooms have state-of-the-art projection systems. Students can follow their instructor’s projected content on their own device. This requires downloading the free KRAMER VIA app.

CapU Lonsdale is staffed to support users of the facility. They can answer questions and troubleshoot facilities and tech issues. The staff can be found at the front door reception.

There is some printing and scanning capabilities available for students and employees.

All other student services such as the Registrar’s Office, Admissions, Bookstore, IT support, Library and Student Success are available at the main campus (Purcell Way).

The CapU Lonsdale building is available to all CapU students and employees.

For CapU students and employees, there are four small meeting rooms. They can be booked on-site using the touch screen next to each meeting room door.

Employees may also pre-book the rooms online – consult Frontlines for instructions. Front desk staff can assist those wishing to book a meeting room.

CapU Lonsdale is steps away from cafes, restaurants, bars, craft beer tasting rooms, stores, fitness studios, the Polygon art gallery and community gathering spaces at and around the foot of Lonsdale Avenue.

Plus, it is one block away from Lonsdale Quay, a public transit hub with SeaBus and bus service to downtown Vancouver and points across the North Shore.

Currently, CapU Lonsdale is piloting limited rentals to outside groups, subject to availability of the rooms and activities aligned with the mission of CapU. Contact CapULonsdale@capilanou.ca to inquire about this program.

For CapU activities (events hosted by CapU employees or students with an employee sponsor), a CapU employee must request the space. The process is described on the CapU Lonsdale Frontlines page.

CapU Lonsdale is located in one of the most convenient and accessible locations along North Vancouver’s waterfront. There are several ways to get to CapU Lonsdale:

• By bus and SeaBus. Check if you are eligible for a U-Pass.
• By foot. Lower Lonsdale is a walkable community.
• By bike. The Shipyards offers secure bike parking, on a first-come, first-serve basis.
• By car share. The Shipyards has dedicated car share parking stalls, to help students, faculty, and staff get between CapU main campus, CapU Residences, and CapU Lonsdale.
• By car. There are several options for paid parking in the area, including a parking lot under The Shipyards building.

CapU Lonsdale is in the heart of North Vancouver. Similar to other urban university locations, there is no dedicated parking for CapU Lonsdale.

The Shipyards building has an underground pay parking lot, but no designated parking stalls for the University. The City of North Vancouver provides many additional paid parking options in the Lower Lonsdale neighbourhood that are accessible to CapU Lonsdale students, staff and visitors.

If possible, consider using car share, bike, or public transit to access CapU Lonsdale.

Capilano University is not affiliated with any parking lot operators in and around The Shipyards so main campus parking passes cannot be used for CapU Lonsdale.
