Motion Picture Arts program to offer students new concentration in film producing

North Vancouver, B.C. November 2, 2020 – New for Fall 2021, Capilano University students in the Bachelor of Motion Picture Arts (BMPA) program will have the option to pursue a concentration in Film Producing. This new offering allows students to graduate with specific, career-ready skills to enhance their job search and career trajectory specifically in producing and film business affairs.
“The Producing concentration empowers students to specialize in film business affairs and producing, gaining in-demand skills that are needed in today’s rapidly evolving and growing motion picture industry,” says Ted Gervan, dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts. “This development represents an exciting step forward for the BMPA program.”
The program focuses on business planning activities, ethics, and sustainability. It also offers instruction in financing models, film banking, contracts, distribution, global market analysis, promotion, monetization, legal requirements, negotiation skills, sustainable production management, intimacy and diversity.
The BMPA program is one of 12 programs offered by CapU’s School of Motion Picture Arts (MOPA), which inspires and trains up and coming Canadian film, television, documentary, animation and visual effects talent for the motion picture and game industries.

"It's encouraging to see Capilano University's film school develop to include a concentration of professional business-related courses. This is exactly what our dynamic motion picture industry needs."
The CMPA-BC partnered with CapU by contributing expertise to the program design for the Film Producing concentration. This collaboration expands on the generous scholarship donation made by the CMPA-BC to CapU’s Indigenous Digital Filmmaking Program earlier this year.
