School of Public Administration

Through our practical, up-to-date programs, Capilano University is helping local government employees throughout BC achieve their career goals, and local government employers meet their succession, retention and recruitment needs.

Why study public administration at CapU?

Our courses are designed for people currently employed by municipalities, regional districts, First Nations governments, improvement districts and supporting agencies in BC.

What are our strengths?

  • Highly relevant and practical program content;
  • Expert faculty; and
  • Interactive, in-person courses for working professionals.

Through seminars, course readings, assignments, in-class activities and discussions, students examine a wide range of current practices and issues, developing critical thinking, writing and presentation skills. As a result, students learn how to be more effective leaders, managers and change agents in their organizations.

PADM vision

To be the first choice in professional development for BC local government employers and employees, offering excellence in educational experience and helping professionals achieve their career goals. Our graduates are independent learners, thinkers and doers actively contributing to their communities.

Our faculty

One of the key strengths of Capilano University’s Local Government Programs is our faculty. Our faculty are experienced instructors and professionals, all of whom have held senior positions in local government. They often draw on guest faculty from the field with expertise in specific topic areas.

Since 1994, hundreds of local government practitioners have volunteered their time and expertise to our courses, helping to develop a new generation of local government leaders.

Our partners

All our programs and courses have been developed in consultation with senior local government professionals and partner organizations, including the Local Government Management Association of BC and the provincial Board of Examiners.

Other key partners include the Municipal Finance Authority of BC and Civicinfo BC, which provide invaluable support for program development and promotion. We strive to keep our programs affordable.
