UPDATED - 7:35 a.m. - Decemeber 10, 2019

SkyTrain workers (CUPE 7000) and the BC Rapid Transit Company reached an 11th hour deal early this morning that averts job action and keeps trains running for commuters. SkyTrains will operate today; however, commuters are advised to anticipate delays while regular schedules are restored. Students and employees who experience delays should check TransLink’s website for news and updates.

11:00 a.m. – December 9, 2019

SkyTrain workers, represented by CUPE 7000, announced plans to hold a three-day strike if the union and the BC Rapid Transit Company (SkyTrain) do not reach an agreement. This work stoppage would shut down the Expo and Millenium SkyTrain lines from 5 a.m. Tuesday morning until 5 a.m. Friday morning this week.

We encourage all transit users to stay up to date on the situation.

Capilano University will remain open in the event of job action. At this time, scheduled exams would proceed and all students are expected to attend. Students who use SkyTrain are advised to plan ahead for their commute this week in case of a service disruption.

We recognize job action would cause disruption for CapU students who use the SkyTrain. Tips for your commute:

  • This job action does not apply to bus service, Canada Line trains, SeaBus, West Coast Express, HandyDART and First Transit (shuttles on Bowen Island and in Langley).
  • TransLink has launched an online guide on how to get around without SkyTrain, using both TransLink’s own trip planner system and Google Maps.
  • Carpool: Capilano Students’ Union has created Capilano Carpool, a Facebook group for students to connect about ridesharing to main campus.
  • EVO: Parking for EVO cars has been extended on these dates. Students using an EVO carshare vehicle for commuting can park in any regular parking space on campus.

Students who experience difficulties in commuting to campus are encouraged to discuss their situation and options with their instructor(s).
