Capilano University Announces Supplementary Emergency Financial Aid for Students
North Vancouver, B.C. April 3, 2020 – In cooperation with the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training, Capilano University today announced supplementary emergency financial assistance to support students who may be experiencing financial hardship.
Significant components of this funding include:
- $140,000 to supplement emergency financial assistance for distribution to students experiencing financial hardship and
- $38,000 to supplement Indigenous emergency assistance funding.
This supplementary funding will be administered by Capilano University’s financial aid and awards department through an application process that will begin on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. Students interested in applying for assistance should email finaid@capilanou.ca for direction and advice. Amounts awarded will vary, depending upon individual circumstances, with the average benefit available being approximately $500.
“The financial support from government to assist our students is deeply appreciated at this time,” says Paul Dangerfield, president of Capilano University. “In the essential and collective effort to stop the spread of COVID-19, there are widespread economic implications that are directly affecting our students. We are making every effort to ensure funds are made available to students as quickly as possible under the circumstances.”
Capilano University’s community of donors is also a source of vital financial support to augment what is available from government. Donors who support the University’s awards and bursaries are generously contributing to increase the funds available.
In addition to the University’s own resources, students, including international students, are encouraged to pursue alternative sources including the Canada Emergency Response Benefit and financial help available from the Province of British Columbia during this time.
