SQUAMISH B.C. November 12, 2024 – A first-time winner was crowned champion Saturday, Nov. 9, at the 2024 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Soccer National Championship, hosted at the Capilano University (CapU) Squamish campus.

With a 3-0 victory over a provincial rival, les Nomades du Collège Montmorency took the title in what was their first-ever trip to the national tournament. Montmorency avenged their Oct. 27 provincial finals loss on penalty kicks to Collège Ahuntsic with the clean-sheet win Saturday over les Aigles in the CCAA final.

A first-half goal from Jade Béchette proved to be the winner. In the second half, Rafaëlle Robitaille-Bourgeois removed all doubt with a pair of tallies, both coming when she cleaned up rebounds in front of the net after Nomades free kicks.

Montmorency finished the tournament without allowing a goal against, posting a 1-0 win over Vancouver Island University (VIU) in their first game, another 1-0 victory over top-ranked Seneca in the semifinal and the 3-0 win over Ahuntsic for gold.

Nomades goalkeeper Kayla Beetz was named to the All-Tournament Team while defender Audrey Lefebvre took the Tournament MVP prize.

Both medal games on Saturday featured provincial rivals. Tournament host CapU defeated PACWEST conference foe VIU 1-0 for bronze in the earlier game of the day, the Blues’ third-straight shutout win at the tournament after a 5-0 loss to Ahuntsic on Day 1.

CapU got a heroic showing from graduating defender and North Vancouver native Mya Fraser, who scored the game-winning goal in both the bronze semifinal and the bronze-medal game. The 5-foot-8 veteran finished her Blues career in fine form, scoring on a set-piece header in both games.
