Eight CapU Blues named PacWest soccer all-stars
The PacWest named their 2018 soccer all-stars this past week, with eight CapU student-athletes taking home hardware.
Five CapU Blues men's soccer players were named to the 11-person all-star team, including fifth-year forward Keith Jackson who was named Player of the Year for the second season in a row.
In his fifth and final season with the Blues, Jackson led the conference in scoring for the third-successive season, netting 13 goals in 12 games – three more than the second place total. His season included two game-winning goals and three multi-goal games, one of which was a four-goal effort against Douglas College on September 23. In his 60 career regular season games, the North Vancouver native scored 44 goals, the second-most in PacWest men’s soccer history. Jackson has also been a two-time CCAA Academic All-Canadian and National Scholar.
The four other all-stars were goalkeeper Hudson Nelles, defender Andres Romo, forward Adrian Sahagun, and midfielder Patrick Izett. More info on their seasons can be found on the Blues website.
In women’s soccer, a trio of Blues were named all-stars for the first time in their PACWEST careers: defender Marsha Chesshire, midfielder Jaimi MacCara, and midfielder Brooklynn Doucette.
The postseason begins for both teams this weekend at the PACWEST Championships, hosted by Capilano University at the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex West. The women play in the semi final noon Friday against Douglas College, with the winner advancing to Saturday’s 12 p.m. final. The men received a bye to the conference final, which kicks off at 2:30pm on Saturday. They’ll face the winner of the semifinal matchup between Douglas and Langara.
