Capilano University Welcomes Christina Neigel as University Librarian

North Vancouver B.C. February 9, 2022 – Capilano University is pleased to announce Christina Neigel, EdD, has joined CapU as the new University Librarian. As part of the University’s senior leadership, the University Librarian leads the academic planning and development of the library and related academic learning services and supports.
In alignment with the University’s Envisioning 2030 strategic plan, Neigel will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing distinct learner experiences and scholarly activity through high-quality resources that support academic programming and activities. CapU is committed to fostering Indigenization, along with equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) throughout the campus culture. The collaborative leadership of the University Librarian is fundamental to realizing and carrying out these values through collaborative and decolonized approaches to library services.
“With her depth of experience as both a librarian and associate, Christina brings to CapU a well-developed understanding of the post-secondary context, system and practices,” said Laureen Styles, EdD, VP academic & provost at Capilano University. “Her leadership in building strong competencies in collaboration, leadership and strategic planning will be an asset to our students and faculty.”
Most recently, Neigel served as an associate professor and department head, Information Studies at the University of the Fraser Valley. In addition, she has been actively involved in supporting academic faculty and the library profession through various roles, namely with the Federation of Post-Secondary Educators of BC, the BC Library Association and the Canadian Federation of Library Associations.
Christina Neigel holds an EdD (Leadership in Post-Secondary Contexts) from Simon Fraser University and a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of British Columbia.
