SQUAMISH B.C. October 9, 2024 – The 2024 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Soccer National Championship starts four weeks from today in Squamish, B.C., and Capilano University is prepared to host an unforgettable event.

Tournament games will kick off the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 6, with medal games happening on Saturday, Nov. 9, at CapU’s new Squamish campus.

The eight-team tournament field will include two teams from B.C., one from Alberta, one from Manitoba, one from Ontario, two from Quebec (provincial winner plus a wild card berth), and one from the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association. The competing teams will be determined by Sunday, Oct. 27, when each CCAA conference completes its provincial playoff.

“Capilano University is proud to welcome everyone to Squamish as we highlight the best in CCAA women’s soccer,” said Capilano University director of Athletics & Recreation Georgette Reed. “Showcasing a new FIFA-certified athletic turf field and one of the country’s most beautiful soccer settings, CapU has worked hard to organize an event the student-athletes, coaches, staff and spectators will remember for a long time. We look forward to a great week of camaraderie and competition.”

Toronto’s Seneca College Sting are currently the top-ranked team in the CCAA and are also the defending national champions. Nanaimo’s Vancouver Island University Mariners are the top-rated side in B.C., coming in at fifth on the national list. The national tournament-host Capilano Blues are on a four-game unbeaten streak, including a tie Sunday in Squamish, and have just one loss in their last eight games.

“It was great for our team to get on the field Sunday and get a sense of the surroundings as we gear up for nationals,” said fifth-year defender and team captain Mya Fraser. “We know we have a spot in the tournament, but we have more work to do; we want to go in playing our best soccer of the season.”

The Capilano Blues have won five national titles in women’s soccer, the second-most in CCAA history. The last title for the Blues women came in 2001 under Blues Hall of Fame head coach Doug Abercrombie.

An awards banquet will serve as the official beginning of the CCAA nationals and will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Squamish’s CN Roundhouse and Conference Centre. The CCAA Coach of the Year, Player of the Year and All-Canadians will be announced at the evening event. Traditional dance and drumming from Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation will be part of the banquet.

The 2024 CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship will be a non-ticket event, free for fans, while online broadcasts will be available through a pay-per-view service.
