Information on the search for the eighth president and vice-chancellor for Capilano University.

Following President Paul Dangerfield's announcement that the 2024–2025 academic year will be his last as president of Capilano University, the University's Board of Governors has initiated a presidential search process with Boyden Canada: Executive Search and Consulting. This search is guided by the President and Vice-Chancellor Search Procedure (pdf).

Information about the presidential search will be updated and shared on this webpage.

Guided by input from the University community, a presidential candidate profile is being created with the desired attributes for our next president. The profile is intended to highlight CapU and define the ideal candidate for the role. Input is being gathered through various methods such as town hall discussions, community meetings, one-on-ones and feedback surveys. This is a significant phase of the search process and one that we encourage all CapU community members to engage in.

Once complete, this profile will be posted on CapU's careers and Boyden executive search.

The presidential search procedure is outlined as follows:

  • A candidate profile is created through consultation with University community.
  • President Search Advisory Committee (PSAC) is established.
  • PSAC reviews all applications to determine a long list of candidates.
  • Boyden Canada, our executive search firm, presents detailed profiles of long-listed candidates to PSAC.
  • PSAC reviews to determine a short-list of candidates.
  • Short-listed candidates are interviewed by PSAC.
  • Recommended candidates meet with key University groups.
  • Reference checks are completed.
  • PSAC makes recommendation to the University's Board of Governors.
  • Recommended candidates meet with the Board of Governors.
  • Board of Governors make the decision on appointment of CapU's eighth president and vice-chancellor.

Members from the president search committee have a pivotal role in the presidential search. They are an advisory committee to the Board of Governors. They select, interview and identify candidate(s) to be recommended to the Board.

Committee Membership

  • PSAC chair, which is the Board chair
  • Two (2) students, nominated by the Capilano Students' Union (CSU)
  • Two (2) faculty, selected according to the provisions of the collective agreement between the Capilano Faculty Association (CFA) and the University
  • Two (2) administrators, which may include a member(s) of the Board
  • Two (2) support staff, selected according to the provisions of the collective agreement between MoveUP and the University

A non-voting representative from the people, culture & diversity department serves as a resource to assist with the process and liaises with Boyden Canada, the executive search firm.

Members of the PSAC sit as individuals and not as delegates of their constituencies. Each member is called upon to exercise their own judgment in the University's best interests.
