Program Highlights
The Legal Administrative Assistant (LAA) Certificate program at CapU provides students with an exciting, in-demand career in the legal industry.
Legal professionals are in high demand in B.C. and if you’re looking to move into a career in law, the LAA program is the right place to start.
In the program, you'll learn the core procedures for civil and family litigation, wills and probate, corporate law, conveyancing and mortgaging.
Before completing your certificate, you'll take part in a two-week practicum in a legal office arranged by our instructors, working with one of our many industry partners.

- Apply communication, problem solving and conflict resolution skills towards an organization’s overall effectiveness.
- Effectively communicate in writing by composing business correspondence and legal documents.
- Demonstrate proficiency working with IBM compatible software to produce a variety of correctly formatted legal documents from written and digitally recorded material.
- Apply analytical skills to correctly identify and prepare documents for litigation, Wills creation and probating, Family Law, Corporate Law, Securities and basic conveyancing.
- Demonstrate computation skills through the creation of legal accounts and Vendor’s and Purchaser’s statements of adjustment.
- Demonstrate appropriate work ethic and entry-level job skills during a two week practicum placement with a law firm or government agency.
Admission Requirements
English language requirements
English is the language of instruction at CapU. All applicants are required to demonstrate competence in the English language prior to admission.
If English is not your first language or you’ve received your education in a language other than English, you must meet our English Language Requirements.

Program Notes
Students who complete LGST 127 and LGST 128 in the Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate and who are later accepted into the Paralegal Certificate, the Paralegal Diploma or the Bachelor of Legal Studies (Paralegal) Degree will be given credit for LAW 115.
