CapU’s Events & Ceremonies team’s top tips for a stress-free Convocation Day.
You did it. Whether you’ve been at CapU for one, two, four or even 10 years, you’ve completed your credential and it’s time to graduate.
So, what’s next? Convocation! You’ve been preparing for this day for years, and our University Events & Ceremonies team is revealing their top tips for making sure you breeze through the day like a pro.
“Convocation at CapU is a full-circle moment,” said Katie Harries, the University Events and Ceremonies Manager at CapU. “Witnessing students cross the stage and transition from their academic journeys to becoming alumni fills us with shared pride.”
Part Two: I'm here. Now what?
Parking is free on campus throughout the ceremonies; however, some road closures are in effect. Please follow signs and traffic staff when you arrive.
After parking, head over to the Birch Building. Here, you’ll check in and collect your credential, pick up your regalia, use the coat check and proceed to the assembly area in the BlueShore Theatre.
Part Three: The show before the show
In the assembly area, you’ll see live-streamed messages of congratulations from your family, friends, instructors and fellow classmates.
“My favourite part of Convocation is standing outside the Birch Building with staff, faculty, and the platform party to clap and cheer for the grads as they process to the ceremony,” said Alexa Morgan, the Ceremonies and Protocols Officer at CapU.
“Seeing the whole university come together to celebrate our grads always brings me joy and makes me proud to be a part of it.”
Our crew of Convocation volunteers will be on hand to explain what to expect during the ceremony. You can also check out our list of Frequently Asked Questions beforehand for more information.
Part Four: Showtime
Once the drummers begin, you and your fellow graduands will proceed from the BlueShore to the ceremony in the Centre of for Sport and Wellness.
Most importantly, this momentous occasion celebrates you and your journey at CapU. Enjoy every moment.
