Meet Sebastien Laroye
Sebastien Laroye, a Bachelor of Tourism Management Degree student at CapU, set his sights on an international adventure. “The chance to gain hands-on experience in a top tourism location was one of the biggest reasons I chose CapU,” he says.
His destination, Innsbruck, Austria, is a city known for its rich history in adventure and tourism. In Austria, Sebastien faced real-world hurdles that gave him new perspectives on both life and career.
Despite the setbacks in his journey, Sebastien learned lessons that shaped his perspective.
The journey helped Sebastien clarify his future career goals. He plans to pursue a Master of Management degree and start a career in the public sector.
Whether you’re majoring in business, tourism, or the arts, studying abroad can change the way you think about your field and open new doors to international career opportunities.
Study Abroad Highlights
The highlight of Sebastian’s adventure was the Berliner Höhenweg, a gruelling 76-kilometre alpine trail that pushed him and his partner to their limits. The trek was demanding, with a steep 7,000 metres of elevation to climb.
The trek began in the blistering 32-degree heat, followed by a gruelling second day spent scrambling over six ridges. To top it all off, a greasy meal they had that night nearly forced them back down to the valley. But after a sleepless night, Sebastian and his partner chose to persevere and push through. They would tackle the remaining seven kilometres to the Greizer Hut and conquer the daunting 1,200m ridge wall in intense heat.
When they reached the top, the stunning panoramic views made everything feel worthwhile.
