Whether you are a student who is serious about athletics interested in joining a varsity team, or more into casual fitness, there’s something for you at Capilano University. CapU has an exceptional athletics program, with varsity teams in soccer, basketball and volleyball. Students can also fit in a workout between classes or participate in the many active programs or clubs.

Drop-in Activities 

The CSW gymnasium is open for drop-in activities from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays. Equipment can be rented for free from the Control Centre with your CapCard. Activities include badminton, basketball, futsal, ping pong, and Spikeball.

Please call the front desk at 604 984 1737 to check gymnasium availability.

  • Proper non-marking footwear is mandatory (no sandals, boots, dress shoes).
  • Valid CapCard is mandatory.

Campus Rec 2018 

Forrest Yoga (co-ed): September 11 - November 29, 2018

Tuesday: 4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

Cost: students $5, staff/faculty $7 per class

Forrest Yoga is a modern yoga style based on Hatha Yoga – derived from some aspects of Sivananda Yoga, along with attention to alignment found in Iyengar yoga and the heat and flowing sequence of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga. The practice is founded on four principles: breath, strength, integrity and spirit. The sequences of poses are designed to help you develop the skills to awaken each of your senses and as a path to find and remove the emotional mental blocks, which dictate and limit our day to day life.

Laleh’s kind & gentle manner is well suited to leading students of all levels. Laleh has been focusing her practice solely on Forrest yoga for the past two years, receiving her 200-hour Yoga Alliance Teaching Certification in February 2017.

Superfly Boxing (co-ed): September 10 - November 28, 2018

Mondays & Tuesdays: 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Wednesdays: 5 p.m.-6 p.m.

Instructor: Dominic Guieb and Eiren Quintero

Cost: free to participate; however, wraps must be purchased from the Instructor.

After the initial warm-up followed by an intense post warm up, get ready to sweat! This class combines basic boxing fundamentals and high-intensity interval training to boost your heart rate and burn hundreds of calories. Suitable for all fitness levels.

Drop in and try it out with our two experienced activity leaders: Dominic & Eiren.

Capilano Basketball League (CBL)

The CBL is a recreational and competitive basketball league that features some of the top men’s basketball teams across the North Shore and Lower Mainland. There are A and B Divisions, with both tiers featuring high-level players — several of which play at the college and university level.

Intramural Indoor Soccer

Starting Fall 2018, CapU Athletics & Recreation is establishing a fun, semi-competitive intramural indoor soccer league for CapU students. The sessions are co-ed and open to all skill levels. Students are welcome to attend as an individual or as a team, and there is no need to pre-register.
