Starting at CapU this fall? We're excited to host a wide variety of virtual and on campus orientation activities, including workshops, social activities and our annual CapU Street Party & President's BBQ.

Tuesday, August 30

Start off your year at our virtual Orientation Kick-Off where you'll hear inspiration and wisdom from CapU Elder-in-Residence Rose Nahanee, receive a special welcome from President Paul Dangerfield and alumni speakers, and learn about campus culture and resources from CapU staff and student leaders during engaging activities.

This live interactive session will not be recorded so be sure to join us! This session is mandatory for all new students.

Wednesday, August 31

This in-person special session for Indigenous students will welcome you to CapU.

Please contact indigenous@capilanou.ca with any questions. 

Join us for a series of online and in-person workshops designed to prepare you to get the best of your CapU experience.

These optional sessions (we recommend choosing at least three) will cover topics such as using your health benefits, getting involved on campus, writing research papers more efficiently, preparing for a successful career and more! 

You will receive the Zoom links and room locations in a follow-up email once you register.

Preparing for your post-secondary education can feel complicated, but figuring out how to pay for it doesn't have to be.

In this virtual workshop, you will meet with a Financial Aid Advisor who will provide you with a roadmap of available financial options to help you get started on creating your own educational financial plan.

Learn how to prepare for associate degrees like a boss. We’ll show you what to avoid and must-do’s as you navigate the wonderful world of associate degrees.

Being a part of the CapU community means that we show care and compassion for each other.

This session provides new students with the skills to help a friend who might be struggling or not doing well, and learning about how to connect a friend to appropriate campus resources. This session will also explore how we support our friends and also take care of our own well-being.

Career planning takes time, effort, and commitment. It is never too early to get started, which is why you should start thinking about it starting right now.

Start your career planning early to give yourself a leg up, especially when you are about to start or deciding which program or course intakes you wished to enroll in.

Travelling without a roadmap? One stop Shop for everything you need because the right gear will make your trip a success.

This webinar offers you the really, really, critical ‘must know' now to help you make a successful transition to the University.

As you start your journey at CapU, we want to set you up for success and ensure you make the most of your time here. In this workshop, you’ll learn about our holistic approach to well-being and CapU resources that are available to support you.

We’ll also engage in some resiliency planning to practice identifying signs when your wellness may be out of balance and make an action plan to use to help you thrive in University!

Fill up your passport pages and ignite your wanderlust! By engaging in study abroad and global experiences, CapU students have the opportunity to make extraordinary memories, expand their global network and receive academic credits, all for the same tuition fee they pay at CapU.

In this presentation, you’ll learn about CapU’s study abroad programs, our response to COVID-19 and hear from past study abroad ambassadors.

At CapU, students are encouraged to start planning in their first and second year of study to depart on a study abroad journey in their second or third year of study! Let's explore beyond classroom borders!

This session focuses on sharing learning strategies for you to trial at the start of the term that will help you to be successful in your studies.

Topics include an introduction to time management, approaches to note taking and effective textbook reading strategies.

Want the scoop on success strategies for essay writing and research? Join this session to meet folks from the Library and Writing Centre and learn their top essay tips that every CapU student should know.

Move beyond job titles and transform how you see yourself engaging with the world. Be prepared to explore the problems, challenges and opportunities that ignite and move you closer to discovering engaging and fulfilling work.

Learn the basics of budgeting from finance experts from RBC.

A chance to connect and hear from some of your peers and student leaders on their experiences, getting involved, and tips and tricks to campus life.

Need to know how to set up your academic accommodations? We'll walk you through the process & answer questions including use of your IEP.

At CapU, we are a caring community-come to this session to learn about how to be inclusive, university resources, student safety and creating healthy and meaningful relationships with your peers.

September 2 - 9

In order to ensure you are best prepared to succeed on your academic journey, the International Student Orientation will cover everything from effective learning strategies and academic integrity, to student basics, study permits, and health insurance.

If you are an international student who is still uncertain about your travel plans or study permit status, we still recommend you register for the International Student Orientation so you can learn about what to expect as a new CapU student.

Almost all program sessions will happen in the morning of the Tuesday, Sept. 6. Some exceptions may occur. Your program area will give you the details if you have a program orientation to attend.

Join us for this campus-wide celebration! Have free burgers and hot dogs (vegetarian options available) at the President's BBQ (11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.), enjoy a free mocktail at the CSU lounge, listen to alumni bands and DJs, pick up your new student welcome bag, learn about the various services and opportunities available to you on campus and maybe even challenge 5 new friends in The Eliminator!
