Chris May, who has worked on productions ranging from Cirque du Soleil to the BC Lions to Taylor Swift, is the recipient of 2025’s Enterprising Award.

Chris May is a master at bringing magic to the stage, creating spaces where people can gather and have unforgettable experiences.
“The arts have always been a huge part of who I am,” he said. “I’ve always been a theatre geek.”

A graduate of CapU’s Arts and Entertainment Management program, he began his journey at the BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts and looks back fondly at his time here.
“That hands-on experience taught me the inner workings of the industry and gave me the practical skills that have stayed with me throughout my career,” he said. “I also had fantastic instructors who provided a strong foundation of industry knowledge, which really helped me as I stepped into my first roles.”
His first paying gig in the industry – working for Welsh singer/songwriter Martyn Joseph – was through a connection he made at BlueShore, which inspired him to pursue a career in live events.
After this, he was hired by Cirque du Soleil and, at the age of 27, became their youngest touring manager, working on six continents.

“Taking on that role at such a young age was pivotal for me. Early in your career, you’re hungry to learn and eager to grow, and as a result, I said “yes” as much as possible,” he said. “That opened many doors for me and helped build the foundation of who I am today as an employee and leader.”
Eventually, he wanted to come back home, and today, Chris is the general manager at BC Place Stadium.
Alumni Awards of Excellence
Congratulations to our five extraordinary 2025 Alumni Awards of Excellence recipients.
Meet the Award Recipients“Growing up down the street in Burnaby, I had so many memories at the stadium, including my first-ever football game with my dad (go Lions!), and now to be working here – it feels like coming home,” he said.
In addition to being the home of the BC Lions, the stadium also hosted the final leg of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.
“We were completely honoured to be chosen to host the final three shows of the world’s biggest-ever concert tour,” he said. “It was the experience of a lifetime and we’re so grateful to have been part of it.”

Outside of work, Chris serves as the Board Chair for EMBERS, a Vancouver-based social enterprise that provides employment opportunities in the construction industry for individuals facing barriers to employment. He is also the Board Chair for the Firehall Arts Centre.
Chris’ advice for future events managers is direct and helpful.
“No matter who they are, treat everyone you meet with the same respect. Work hard, listen, and don’t be afraid to admit what you don’t know,” he said.
“Probably most important: put your hand up when you make a mistake, but ensure you have a recommendation on how to fix it.”
For his success in producing unforgettable events and his work in the arts community, CapU is proud to honour Chris May with the Enterprising Award at the upcoming 2025 Alumni Awards of Excellence event on March 26, 2025.
