Laureen Styles joining Capilano University in the role of vice president, academic & provost

Laureen Styles will join Capilano University in the role of vice president, academic & provost on June 18. This position serves as the chief academic officer of Capilano University, responsible for the academic quality, direction and stewardship of Capilano University's programs.

Styles brings extensive academic experience to her role at CapU, including teaching in higher education and previous roles as dean (Vancouver Island University) and vice president academic (Justice Institute of British Columbia). Commitments to collaboration, student success, Indigenous education, community-engaged scholarship and research and experiential learning have been hallmarks in both her teaching and leadership roles.

Her committee work is substantive at the national, provincial and institutional levels, including chairing the provincial Health Sciences Deans and Directors and serving as a member of the Indigenous Education Protocol Planning Committee (Colleges and Institutes Canada) and BC Association of Institutes and Universities.

Styles holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Calgary and a Master of Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Alberta.

Starting at CapU in June will give Styles the summer to familiarize herself with her role before Capilano University launches its 50th academic year in September 2018.
