Tourism Management Co-op Program Receives National Accreditation
NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. – Capilano University is pleased to announce its Tourism Management Co-operative Education Diploma program is now accredited by the Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning Canada Accreditation Council (CEWIL).
The accreditation means the program meets or exceeds the rigorous criteria set forth by CEWIL Canada, noting CapU is a leader in establishing quality co-operative education programs.
"We use co-op as a benchmark. It's the pinnacle of work-integrated learning experiences because standards are so high," says Christy Dodds, an instructor who serves as coordinator of the Tourism Management Co-op at CapU. "Our goal is to ensure students have quality learning experiences in their work terms, and we apply these standards to all practicums and internships."
In their confirmation of accreditation, the CEWIL noted the CapU program has a highly engaged faculty who offer unique experiential learning opportunities, including bringing guest speakers from major employers and supporting work-integrated learning discussions on campus.
This spring, there are more than 50 students enrolled in the Tourism Management Co-op program. About 150 students in Capilano University's School of Tourism Management are taking part in supervised work terms each year, with capacity to grow in the future.

"A complement of job-ready experience before graduation means CapU graduates will stand out when they join the workforce."
With this new six-year accreditation, the Tourism Management Co-operative Education Diploma is the first program at CapU and the only tourism program in the Lower Mainland to gain CEWIL certification.
