Announcement: Dean, Faculty of Fine & Applied Arts
Capilano University is pleased to announce Ted Gervan as the next dean, Faculty of Fine & Applied Arts. Ted has been in an interim role since last July and is the successful candidate for the permanent position based on the recent selection process.
Over the last eleven months, there have been opportunities for Ted to learn and participate in many ways within the faculty and at the university level as well as make substantive contributions aligned with University priorities and future directions.
CapU values and appreciates his commitment to learn with and from everyone he interacts with and his ability to foster faculty and staff engagement. Ted focuses on student success and students as partners in their university experience, supports and participates in diversity and inclusion activities and works with others to foster Indigenization and decolonized approaches.
He also champions program growth, innovation, key industry partnerships and academic options and opportunities for current and future students including pathways such as transfer agreements. His commitment to nurture high quality educational experiences that set CapU graduates apart from others, through excellent academic programs and exceptional faculty and staff, is unwavering.
Ted brings a wealth of experience to this role with his doctorate in educational leadership from Simon Fraser University, previous teaching experience and deep sector expertise in the creative arts and entertainment industry. He has also held previous leadership positions as associate dean of academic affairs at the Art Institute of Vancouver and vice president of education at the Vancouver Film School.
