"Education is learning to think for yourself."

Bio

Chaoyi (Lyra) Shi (MA, British Columbia, 2023) is a dedicated psychology instructor at Capilano University with a rich educational background and extensive teaching experience. Shi earned a BA with honors in psychology from the University of British Columbia, which laid the foundation for a passionate career in psychological education and research. Pursuing further expertise, Shi completed an MA in psychology, cultivating a deep understanding of the subject matter.

With over five years of experience in teaching since undergraduate studies, Shi has developed a nuanced approach to instruction that engages and inspires students. Before joining the faculty at Capilano University, Shi served as an instructor at a distinguished college. During this time, Shialso played an instrumental role as a member of the curriculum committee and represented the college at various academic conferences, contributing valuable insights into the evolving field of psychology.

Chaoyi (Lyra) Shi's commitment to education is paralleled by a passion for the great outdoors and creative pursuits. As an enthusiast of hiking and scuba diving, Shi explores the depths of the sea and the heights of the mountains, finding harmony with nature. Additionally, Shi has a keen interest in video editing, a skill that complements academic endeavors by bringing psychological concepts to life through multimedia. Shi’s multifaceted interests not only enrich personal growth but also enhance the classroom experience, making learning a dynamic and engaging journey for students.

As a psychology instructor, my fascination lies with the inner workings of the human mind and behaviour. My goal is to instill in students an awareness that psychology is not just an academic subject but a vital lens through which to view every facet of life. From the microcosm of personal decision-making to the broader strokes of social movements, psychological principles are at play. I encourage students to discern these principles in their daily interactions, personal growth, and the complex societal structures they navigate, fostering a profound recognition that psychology is, indeed, everywhere.
