Bio
Debra Rurak (BFA, Simon Fraser University, 1985) has worked as a film and television editor for the past 30 years. Her professional experience includes features, short dramas, documentary, dramatic and documentary series.
For years Rurak was an active member of the IATSE 891 editing department. She has been recognized for her work in editing, winning several awards, including a Genie (Canadian Screen Award), two Leo Awards (BC Award), a Golden Sheaf (Yorkton) and various other nominations.
Rurak began teaching at Capilano University in 2014 and loves sharing her passion for post-production in the classroom.
After a long career as a film and television editor, I am happy to share my love and knowledge of film and post-production with a new batch of filmmakers and editors. I believe in hands-on learning, and I expose students to both the creative and technical aspects of editing. I also spent years working in sound post-production and enjoy sharing my passion for building soundtracks.
