We've got you and your student covered once they start living in CapU student housing. Your student's safety, well-being and academic success are our top priorities.

Life in student housing

Living in student housing comes with certain rights, responsibilities and expectations.

Our Residence Handbook outlines community standards that we expect of all students living in residence to ensure a respectful, comfortable and welcoming environment for all. We strongly encourage you and your student to become familiar with the handbook.

Our team of Resident Advisors (RAs) who are student staff run events and programs both within housing and throughout the local area aimed at creating a close community within residence and helping students get acquainted to our local surroundings.

Wellness, safety and support

With 24/7 security measures in place, including keycard access and on-site staff, we ensure a safer and positive-living environment for all residents.

The CapU Residence Life Team, consisting of professional and student staff, is also here to help to enrich your student’s residence experience, academic success, and personal growth.

RAs are trained to provide support and assistance whenever needed, whether it’s academic advice, emotional support, or simply a friendly face to talk to.

Residence Life Facilitators (RLFs) are professional staff, who supervise the RA team, are responsible for a designated area in the residence community, manage the conduct process in residence and have extensive knowledge of campus resources and support.

FAQ for parents

You can contact your student’s Residence Life Facilitator (RLF) or housing@capilanou.ca.

While the RLF can't - without your student’s permission - share specific information about them with you, the RLF will take your concerns seriously and will offer assistance in the circumstances you are describing.

The RLFs will also always reach out to your student, check-in and offer support and referral to campus services and resources.

Note: We will always follow up with your student, but please remember that CapU must respect your student’s privacy. Without your student’s permission, we are not able to share information or provide you with an update.

During working hours, Monday to Friday (9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.), please call or email our housing office. After 4:30 p.m. and on weekends, you can contact our security team at:

Our staff will connect with your student and tell them you have phoned about their well-being and that you have requested that they contact you.

We recognize that you may want to stay updated on all the amazing things that your student is accomplishing during their time at CapU.

Student records and information at CapU are protected under B.C.’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), which prohibits the university from releasing personal or academic information without the consent of the student.
