The Community Capacity Building (CCB) program welcomes students from all backgrounds. If you have experience in hands-on community work, this program further develops your skills and helps you to qualify for more career opportunities.
What is community capacity building?
Community capacity building focuses on empowering communities to identify and solve problems, make decisions, and take action effectively. Through sustainable development, we promote active participation and inclusivity.
In the program, students learn skills needed to manage their development, contribute towards local needs and create lasting improvements in the community.
Read on for the top three reasons why CapU’s Community Capacity Building program could be for you.
Gain career opportunities and advance academically
After graduation, many of our alumni achieve professional success and make great contributions to their communities.
“We aim to support our community in accessing education through programs like Community Capacity Building,” said Blanca Salvatierra. Regional Lead at the Association of Neighbourhood Houses of British Columbia (ANHBC). “Through this program, students become advocates for discussing social issues and take centre stage.”
Students develop skills that can immediately be put into practice while also building the foundation for further study in the field.
Unlike many programs, our program doesn’t confine students to one field; instead, it offers a wide range of career opportunities.
Develop a relevant skill set
Our program features hands-on learning experiences, close partnerships with local organizations, and valuable mentorship opportunities. Through planning real-world projects, students build their capacity to lead and innovate.
With enhanced leadership, project management, and community engagement skills, our graduates are prepared for diverse career paths.
Cultivate personal growth
Beyond professional skills, our students develop confidence and become well-rounded individuals. Graduates learn to tackle complex issues, leading them to roles where they can make significant contributions.
“Taking the CCB in 2014 broadened my understanding of community development and aligned with my community organizing efforts,” said Jolene Andrew, Director of Community Development for the Lil’wat Nation. “It equipped me for executive non-profit leadership, organizational development, and strategic planning for numerous non-profits and boards.”
Are you the right fit?
Whether you’re a charismatic leader who commands attention or a quiet supporter who works behind the scenes, everyone can contribute in their unique way.
The most important quality for students in this program is the desire to make a positive impact and bring change. Through CapU’s Community Capacity Building program, we can strengthen communities together, one at a time.
