ChatLive: Geographies of the Heart - Life-Writing from Newcomers to Canada
ChatLive is a series of informal discussions where CapU students explore relevant subjects with CapU instructors.
Stories from Newcomers to Canada (SNtC) is a life-writing project that brings together newcomers from across British Columbia to author their own stories of migration.
The stories were recently published under the title, Geographies of the Heart: Life-Writing from Newcomers to Canada (UBC Press), as a collection of edited creative non-fiction capturing the complexity of newcomer experiences in Canada, including finding belonging, experiencing racism, exclusion and the human capacity to find new paths and ways of being.
This event brings together some of the authors and editors of SNtC to read from the stories and discuss how they may challenge narratives around what it means to be Canadian and a newcomer, and what diversity means today.
The event is in partnership with faculty member Zahida Rahemtulla (Community Outreach and Development Department) and the CapU Library (Jen Goerzen).
