Celebrate Africa!;
Kwashie Kuwor

Some of the Pacific Northwest’s premiere African drummers and dancers are set to electrify the BlueShore at CapU stage.

Leading the musical brigade is the revered performer and expert in West African traditional music and dance CapU’s own esteemed faculty member Kofi Gbolonyo.

An expert on the talking drum, Gbolonyo is a founding member, along with multi-instrumentalist Curtis Andrews, of Vancouver’s top drum and dance large ensemble Adanu Habobo, which also takes the stage.

Joining Adanu Habobo are special guests Ontario-based  Kwashie Kuwor, renowned dancer and drummer, from Ghana, and Vancouver-based Kurai Mubaiwa, mbira and marimba master, from Zimbabwe. Igniting it all will be dozens of musicians from Capilano University groups CapU African Ensemble, C Band, and Percussion Ensemble – who will be joined by faculty talents Daniel Hersog, Jared Burrows and Steve Kaldestad.

Celebrating the passion of African rhythm, dance and culture, the show will feature arrangements of traditional music and dance from various regions of the African continent as well as new works and intercultural collaborations.
