Capilano University grad Benson Shum has won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature as part of the animation team of Disney's Zootopia.
"I was so honoured that we were among the other amazing nominated films," said Shum, who also worked as an animator on another Oscar-nominated film, Moana.
A graduate of Capilano's 2D Animation and Visual Development Program, Shum now turns his attention to the upcoming film Wreck-it-Ralph 2, slated for release in 2018.
"I started at Disney on the first Wreck-it-Ralph, so it's great to re-visit those characters again," Shum said.
As part of the Walt Disney Artist Showcase, Shum has also just published his first children's book, Holly's Day at the Pool, and will be doing a book signing in Vancouver in May.
