Fall 2020 Remote Academic Support

We are excited to welcome new and continuing students for Fall 2020. Our faculty and staff are dedicated educators and professionals who are committed to providing exceptional learning experiences for students.

Courses this fall will be offered mainly through online delivery with some in-person classes where required and in alignment with B.C.'s health and safety guidelines. 

Courses will be offered in one of four formats:

  • Online
  • Mixed mode (a combination of online and in-person)
  • In-person (on campus or at a specified learning site)
  • Off-site (practicums or community-based delivery)

Educational Technology Tools

Delivery of courses will be offered online through the following web-based tools:

  • eLearn (our Learning Management System)
  • WebEx (video conferencing)
  • Microsoft Teams (video conferencing)
  • Kaltura (video creation and streaming)

Students have access to Microsoft Office 365. This platform includes Word, Excel, OneDrive (cloud file storage), Teams, Outlook and more. You can access all of these applications through the Office 365 portal.

Students will need access to a computer, laptop or tablet and reliable Wi-Fi.

This chat service provides support to help students identify and connect to the academic services needed to support their learning. The chat service will be available soon.

Library

Full online access to the Library's eResources (ebooks, articles, videos and music) and virtual help services can be found at Research Help Desk Online.

Writing Centre

The Writing Centre offers tips and one-on-one support on how to improve your written work.

Math Learning Centre

Visit the Math Learning Centre for one-on-one help from math and statistics instructors.

English Language Support (ELS)

ELS is a support service for non-native speakers of English enrolled in courses at Capilano University. ELS is designed to assist students with their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. For further information or to book an appointment, connect with the English Language Support team.

Student Digital Ambassadors

The Student Digital Ambassadors provide peer-to-peer support for students navigating the online environment and the educational technology tools used at Capilano University. The Student Digital Ambassadors can provide help with how to upload assignments in eLearn, how to use MS Teams or WebEx for presentations, and how to create videos with Kaltura.

Join the Student Digital Ambassadors virtually in Microsoft Teams, Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.

First Nations Student Services

First Nations Student Services assist Indigenous students with course selection, registration and personal matters.

Accessibility

Accessibility Services coordinates and establishes academic accommodations and associated services for students with disabilities at Capilano University.

Academic Advising

Academic Advising answers your questions and helps students with personalized planning to empower them to make informed decisions about their academic future.
