September 19 Capilano University and CFA bargaining update
Capilano University and the Capilano Faculty Association met in person on Friday, September 15, 2023 for a full-day bargaining session. The parties were able to agree on a number of proposals, including:
- Removal of one section penalty towards step increment for non-regulars who are on unpaid leaves of absence exceeding 10 duty days in a month
- Removal of restriction on section loads over an academic term and academic year. The parties share an understanding that faculty accepting outside activities are not a concern if faculty continue to meet their scheduled and other ancillary duties and responsibilities
- Adding a list of leaves available to faculty under the Common Agreement
- Adding “Indigenous identity and lived experience” as a basis/consideration for scale placement upon hire for non-regular positions that require unusual skills, credentials or experience
The parties continue to discuss monetary and benefits proposals.
The next bargaining dates are September 26 and 29.
