Develop the skills to start a career as a bookkeeper or manage the books at your own small business in the eight-month Bookkeeping Certification for Canada at Capilano University.
Bookkeepers in Canada perform a vital role in accounting and finance, managing financial transactions and data to keep businesses large and small on track with their financial goals and taxation demands.
In this 15-credit bookkeeping course program, you'll strengthen your existing skills with business computing, accounting, accounting computer applications, and business writing and editing courses.
StrongerBC future skills grant eligible
Students taking the Bookkeeping Certificate are eligible for the StrongerBC future skills grant.
The grant provides $3,500 toward tuition fees for students ages 19 or older registered in short-term training programs.

- Prepare business emails, letters and memos using fundamental principles of grammar, punctuation, and written communication skills so that the message is clearly transmitted.
- Apply basic math skills in the computation of the numerical aspects of business situations.
- Analyze and record basic accounting transactions accurately and thoroughly for different types of business organizations.
- Operate Microsoft Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint as software tools to be used in a business setting.
- Record accounting transactions using a variety of computerized accounting programs.
- Produce an effective team project which links high-performance team and group concepts.
- Use their resume, letters of application, interviewing techniques and other job strategies to seek employment and complete a two week practicum placement.
Admission Requirements
English language requirements
English is the language of instruction at CapU. All applicants are required to demonstrate competence in the English language prior to admission.
If English is not your first language or you’ve received your education in a language other than English, you must meet our English Language Requirements.
