Bio
Christine Sjolander (Ed.D., Simon Fraser University, 2018) has more than 20 years experience in higher education leadership and administration with much of her experience in student services. Her background includes creative program development, internal operations management, external outreach and relationship development, career planning, event management, marketing and communications, and team leadership.
Sjolander started her post-secondary career after completing her Master's degree in engineering working in the Engineering Placement Office as a Career Coach and International Student Advisor at Alfred University in New York State. From there, she spent four years at SUNY Brockport with roles in corporate outreach, career development, academic advising, alumni relations, course scheduling and as a sessional instructor.
After relocating to Southern California in 2000, Sjolander served as Associate Director, MBA Careers for the University of California, Irvine's Paul Merage School of Business and as Assistant Vice President, Enrollment Management overseeing student services, career development, admissions and recruiting and scholarships for the Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences. In between educational leadership roles, she also worked in executive search, corporate human resources and in-house recruiting.
Sjolander immigrated to Canada in 2010, where she served as Executive Director, Career Management Centre for the Beedie School of Business until 2018. After completing her doctorate with her research focused on career development centres within in the Canadian post-secondary landscape, she decided to refocus her passion for career development as an instructor for Capilano University and through her private career coaching practice, Career Drivers.
Sjolander recently became Vice Chair, Academic for the School of Business and ACBSP Accreditation Champion focusing on curriculum updates and academic quality improvement.
Due to my long standing interest in career development and work integrated learning, my teaching is focused on practicum and other WIL related courses.
