Here is the full schedule of events for CapU's New Student Orientation.

All New Students Orientation kick-off session (online) - Aug. 27, 10-11:30 a.m.

Start off your Journey at CapU with our All-New Students Orientation kick-off session where you'll learn about campus culture and resources from CapU staff and student leaders during engaging activities.

This live interactive session will not be recorded so be sure to join us! This session is mandatory for all new students. A link to access the session will be sent out in advance.

International Student Orientation (online) - Aug. 29, 8:30-10 a.m.

To ensure you are best prepared to succeed on your academic journey, the International Student Orientation - which is mandatory for all new international students will cover everything from student basics, study permits and health insurance.

If you are an international student who is still uncertain about your travel plans or study permit status, we still recommend you register for the International Student Orientation so you can learn about what to expect as a new CapU student.

Welcome Wednesdays

On both August 21 and 28, starting at 10:30 a.m., we are pleased to offer Welcome Wednesdays.

Join us on campus for our Welcome Wednesdays to get familiar with the campus before you start. Take a guided campus tour to discover the beautiful CapU campus and learn where resources are located.

You will have the opportunity to meet new and returning students while connecting over fun activities. This will also be a great opportunity to pick up your CapCard.

There will also be a series of workshops offered on campus on Welcome Wednesdays. If you attend at least two, you will be entered to win amazing prizes.

Whether you are a transfer student or a recent high school graduate, it is exciting and nerve-wrecking to start something new.

At this workshop, your Academic Advisors will share some tips and strategies on how to prepare for getting the most from your CapU university life.

There are so many great programs and areas of study offered here at CapU, but no matter which one you’re in, there’s one thing that all students will be required to do at some point in their studies: a high-quality research assignment.

This workshop offers an introductory overview of ways the Library & Writing Centre can help you with different aspects of your research assignments and where to go if you need help.

Learn about the rights and obligations tenants have. This workshop is not legal advice.

Topics include how to protect yourself, your rights and responsibilities, security deposits, illegal entry, repairs & evictions, etc.

Preparing for your post-secondary education can feel complicated, but figuring out how to pay for it doesn’t have to be.

This workshop provides a roadmap of the financial options available to help you get started on creating your own educational financial plan.

  • Student loans and grants;
  • Scholarships, bursaries, and awards;
  • Fee deferrals;
  • Adult upgrading grants; and
  • Budgeting and financial well-being.

Program Orientation sessions

Almost all program sessions will happen on the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 3. Some exceptions may occur. Your program area will give you the details if you have a program orientation to attend.

CapU Street Party (CUSP) & Welcome BBQ

Join us on Sept. 3 from 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m., to kick off your new academic journey!

Have free burgers and hot dogs (vegetarian options available) at the Welcome BBQ (11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.), listen to alumni bands and DJs, pick up your new student welcome bag, learn about the various services and opportunities available to you on campus and make new friends as you challenge them on the inflatables!

CapU Social Week: Sept. 4-6

We are preparing a series of fun social activities and events for you to join in between your classes during your first week.

Stay tuned for a detailed schedule that will include sports drop-ins, a mixer, open mic night and more. Keep an eye on your CapU email for orientation updates and follow CapU Student Life for sneak peeks of activities.
